Once you’ve decided on the perfect day to get married you need the perfect venue.  Flip through any magazine, browse The Knot or Wedding Wire and you will find 100s of venues that might peek your interest.  While it’s amazing to have a ton of options, its very easy to get overwhelmed.  I’m always in awe of all the amazing venues right here in Illinois.

First thing first, it’s important to nail down your wedding vision before you start visiting venues.  If you are unsure spend some time on line browsing different styles, pinterest is a brides best friend when planning.  Are you going for a shabby chic theme or do you prefer a black tie city affair?  If you prefer more of the city vibes don’t waste your time visiting barns in the burbs.  If you’ve been dreaming of a rustic barn wedding I wouldn’t recommend visiting city chic loft spaces.  Looking at spaces that aren’t your style can be very discouraging so avoid extra venue tours.

Once you’ve picked a style you’re going for, make a top five list of venues.  Once you have your top contenders go venue by venue to weigh the pros and cons of each.  Do they offer a menu you like, can they accommodate your wedding size and most importantly is it in budget?

Brad and I had talked numerous times about what we envisioned to be the perfect wedding.  We both agreed that we wanted something different and not typical.  My least favorite part of weddings is the long sit down dinner.  It works great for others, it might be my busy body nature but sitting through a long dinner is pure torture.  I like to be up, moving around and visiting.  Brad works for Lettuce Entertain You so without any hesitation we thought it would be great to have our wedding at an LEYE restaurant.  After some debate we decided on Joe’s Live in Rosemont, IL which is an awesome concert venue with tons of space to make our own.

I love live music so Joe’s is a perfect space to host our wedding which will include a band and dj through out the night in addition to an acoustic musical performance during cocktail hour.

What are your favorite venues?  What helped you pick the right one?  I would love to hear from other brides planning the big day or recently hitched!  Email me:
